Game Preview: Sandra Day O’Connor Eagles
After tipping off their season with a massive 85-point victory over Dobson, the Tigers are cranking up the heat right away, as they get ready to travel to Phoenix to take on Sandra Day O’Connor. The last time the two teams faced was in the 2023 Open Division Playoffs, where Millennium advanced with a 75-64 overtime victory at The Den.
O’Connor, now 2-0 after convincing victories over Hamilton and Desert Vista, was widely considered to be the third ranked team in the state of Arizona coming into the season by various media polls and should provide a unique challenge for the Tigers on Tuesday night.
Millennium will have to contend with the Eagles’ length and athleticism, especially from seniors Michael Simcoe and TayVion Wilson, who have proven to be able to score in bunches. Add to that a group of superb role players in Colton Watson, John Simcoe, and Rylan Parsley, and you have a tough competitor, especially in their home gym.
“It gives us a great opportunity to compete with a top team this early in the season,” said Tigers’ junior guard Cam Holmes, when asked about the game. “If we want to get to where we want to be, we need to be tested, and that’s what we’re getting here with O’Connor”
“It’s why we built the schedule the way that we did,” added Coach Ty Amundsen. “We always want to play in games to tell us what our team is made of, especially this early in the season. That way, we can learn from them and get better as the season goes on.”
The Tigers will tip-off at O’Connor High School on Tuesday night (November 26) at 7:00 PM.
